Two Oceans Aquarium

Cape Town hotels

Situated in the Waterfront Complex, the aquarium is a favorite destination of Capetonians and tourists alike.

The exhibits reflect the diverse sea life found off the South African coast. The aquarium contains over 3000 living animals, ranging from small plankton to large ragged tooth sharks.

Apart from the range of smaller tanks there are two extraordinary exhibits.

The 2 million litre predator exhibit is home to large ragged tooth sharks that swim lazily around the large tank accompanied by many predatory fish varieties, sting rays and turtles. Visitors can view the fish from windows while walking around the tank or through a half tunnel while the fish swim overhead or while seated before a large 11m wide by 4m high viewing window. If you have a scuba qualification, it is possible to dive in the predator tank. Feeding occurs daily in the predator exhibit at 3pm. The sharks are only fed on Sundays at 3pm.

The Two Oceans Aquarium is one of only 3 aquariums worldwide to host a kelp forest exhibit. The kelp plants grow like tall trees and visitors are mesmerized by the ceaseless swaying of the plants while large fish swim through the fronds. 800 000 Litres of seawater fill this 12mX12mX6m exhibit. Diving is also available in the kelp tank for qualified divers. Feeding in the kelp forest tank takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 12.00pm.

Penguins housed in the River Meander exhibition are fed at 11.5am and 2.30pm daily. These creatures nest in the exhibition and you are often able to see the baby hatchlings being fed by their parents

The aquarium has a large shop filled with a selection of books, toys and fish memorabilia. There is also a restaurant attached to the aquarium where one may sit and look out over the waterfront yacht basin.

The Two Oceans Aquarium is open every day of the year from 9h30am until 6pm. Your ticket is valid for the entire day.
