Cape Town Culture

 
 

Cape Town's population of about 3 million is made up people from many original cultures. About half the population call themselves Cape Coloured and originate from a mix of slaves from both Africa and South East Asia and Dutch Settlers and the Khoikhoi tribe.

Black Africans from the Xhosa tribe have a population of around one million. There is a large white community that is mainly Afrikaan or have British origins. There is a significant Muslim community and a smaller Jewish community. Cape Town has in recent years developed as a major gay community.
