Cape Town city centre sits between Table Bay and Table Mountain in the City Bowl which also includes the area to the north of Table Mountain and east of Signal Hill.

Cape Town Central
Cape Town Central is the heart of Cape Town and in the shadow of Table Mountain. The main areas being the Central Business District and the surrounding suburbs the "City Bowl'', V&A Waterfront and the Atlantic Seaboard running as far as Hout Bay. The CBD is a mix of historical and modern architecture and home to most of the main museums, District 6 and nightlife. The V&A Waterfront is a major shopping and entertainment area very popular with Cape Town visitors and where the ferry to Robben Island departs. The Atlantic Seaboard offers white sandy beaches, cafes and small towns all the way to Hout Bay. |
Cape Town South
A large multicultural area with the Cape Flats which is a mixture of townships and informal settlements. Athlone is one of the main towns in Cape Flats and the scene of struggles against Apartheid. The residential Southern Suburbs are a contrast and Wynberg provides fine examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture and Constantia the birthplace of the South Africa wine industry.
Cape Town North
The area to the north of the city centre and North west of Cape Town airport. The suburbs of Tygerberg, Goodwood, Parow and Durbanville are found here. The area along the Atlantic coast from Milnerton to Mamre is called Blaauwberg where the Battle of Blaawberg took place. A battle that signaled the second occupation of the Cape by the British.
Cape Town East
The area to the east of the city is one of vineyards, coastline and rural areas. The Hottentots Holland mountain range dominates the area known as Helderberg and includes the beaches at Strand and Gordon's Bay. The area to the east is Oostenberg and includes the suburbs of Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and Kuilis River. Town ship culture can be experienced at Khayelitsha. A major town is Somerset West.
